For more than 60 years the Paris-born collector George Ortiz has assiduously traveled the world in search of the finest ancient art. The fruits of his labors are shown here in 291 color photographs including sculptures vases and household items ranging in time from the Neolithic period to the Byzantine Empire. The scope and variety of these works is considerable as evidenced by a cheerful Egyptian hippopotamus; an elegant Corinthian helmet; a solemn lifelike bronze of Demosthenes; and a fierce terracotta head from Nigeria. Ortiz personally wrote the text for this book offering both his erudite commentary and his personal impressions of the artwork.
