Prophet and social critic William Blake was one of the most strikingly original poets of the Romantic age.

Writing at a time of strict social convention and religious conformity Blake spoke out against all restrictions to human freedom. His belief in the power of the imagiation the supremacy of the emotions - even anger - and the need for free open communication was the guiding principle of his poetry.
