Prophet and social critic, William Blake was one of the most strikingly original poets of the Romantic age.

Writing at a time of strict social convention and religious conformity, Blake spoke out against all restrictions to human freedom. His belief in the power of the imagiation the supremacy of the emotions - even anger - and the need for free, open communication, was the guiding principle of his poetry.
